Mercy named Top 100 Best in Value™ Hospital
November 1, 2009
Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines is ranked among the best hospitals in the nation in the Top 100 Best in Value™ study performed by Data Advantage, LLC, of Nashville, Tenn. The study analyzes hospital value and quality of care and is the first and only such national study of U.S. hospitals.
Mercy is the only Des Moines hospital ranked in Data Advances’ 2009-2010 Hospital Value Index™. St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, a member of Mercy Health Network – Central Iowa, is also part of this elite group, along with Mercy Health Network member Mercy Medical Center – Dubuque.
To determine the Top 100 Best in Value™ hospitals, Data Advantage analyzed quality indicators, efficiency measures, prices and patient satisfaction scores as reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for more than 4,500 hospitals across the country to compare the value hospitals provide. Iowa hospitals are in the only region included in the study to show an increase in value during the 2009-2010 study.
“These are the hospitals that set the bar for the nation when it comes to value,” said Hal Andrews, CEO of Data Advantage. “If every hospital performed at the level of the Top 100, more than $60 billion per year in net costs could be saved.”
