A Commitment to Excellence
Mercy Cancer Center Radiation Oncology (MCCRO) is an integral part of the Mercy Cancer Center, and has long been recognized as a leader in radiation therapy and cancer care in Iowa.
With a compliment of board-certified physicians, a multidisciplinary staff of physicists, therapists and nurses and multiple treatment systems, MCCRO continues to set the standard for radiation therapy in the greater Des Moines area and Iowa. MCCRO and Mercy Medical Center put special emphasis on treating the whole person, including offering social and educational support through our Mercy Cancer Center.
Mercy Cancer Center Radiation Oncology has been expanded and redesigned in response to the growing demand for advanced radiation oncology therapies. To address our patients’ needs for prompt and efficient treatment in a modern, supportive environment, we have increased treatment capacity with a third linear accelerator, high dose rate brachytherapy, an electronic medical record and new technologies. We have also brought on three additional radiation oncologists over the past few years. Our services also include a Varian Trilogy (our fourth linear accelerator), PET-CT and a 16 slice CT simulation at our second location at the Mercy Cancer Center – West Lakes in Clive.
A supportive environment
When you, a friend or a family member are diagnosed with cancer, it is never easy. The staff members of Mercy Cancer Center and Mercy Cancer Center Radiation Oncology understand this is a difficult time of questioning, learning and trying to cope.
Our staff of dedicated physicians, nurses and therapists are with you every step of the way. We evaluate each person’s specific circumstances and offer individualized services and counseling to help educate patients and loved ones about their disease and, hopefully, reduce the level of anxiety. Our Cancer Resource Center provides additional information and support for patients and family members in the form of support groups, counseling, prosthetics, wigs and hats and education.
