Mercy named a 2013-2014 Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News & World Report

DES MOINES, Iowa –For the second consecutive year Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines has been ranked as a U.S. News & World Report Best Regional Hospital in Iowa, with high performance in six medical specialties. The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 24th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.
Mercy is a Best Regional Hospital in the Des Moines metro area and Central Iowa region. Only about 15 percent of hospitals in the United States are recognized for their high performance as being among their region’s best according to U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comaro. Mercy is ranked second in the state based on high performance in the specialties of: Cancer; Gastroenterology and GI Surgery; Gynecology; Nephrology; Orthopedics; and Pulmonology.

The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. using the same data, U.S. News produced the state and metro rankings.
